The original of this painting has sold.
Over a legion of chaos, shines the Christ light.
If you’re familiar at all with the account in Mark chapter 5, you’ll be able to follow along with this contemporary abstracted painting of the account of Jesus' healing of the insane man. Jesus goes to the country of the Gadarenes and heals a man struggling with the belief of dementia (he said his name was Legion, or that he believed that there were multiple demons controlling him).
Starting at the bottom of the painting, you’ll see chaos represented by clashing reds, blacks, and greens. But then the healing Christ, Truth cuts through the darkness (represented in the purple lines). And as we continue to rise up the painting (and with this Christly view of man in mind), we see that there is a bright, settled calm. The healing is complete.
Every healing more or less follows this arc and I’m grateful to Jesus our Master for demonstrating how this is to be done. Please read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 411 for an excellent explanation of this story.
“The beam of Truth displaces / The darkness of the night.”
