I painted “Grassy Marsh” on a day when I was inspired by God‘s beauty. I wanted to convey feeling of the “still small voice” that we hear about in the story of Elijah (I Kings 19:12). Confident but meek. Engaging but peaceful. Restful but interesting. Quiet but colorful. To me this embodies everything from an inspired thought to the pleasant joy of a beautiful marriage. It’s the feeling one gets in a harmonious workplace or when talking with a dear old friend. It’s the feeling one gets on a long run when the vigorous activity is forgotten because you’re busy soaking in the goodness and beauty around you. I hope it inspires you to look for instances of the “still small voice” in your own life.
This was painted using a rubber kitchen spatula and finished with loose brushwork. I was going for heavy texture on these and added a little something extra special with metallic paint. The image seems to change as you walk past it as the light shifts on the shining surface.
